On April 1, AAC members can take part in a private tour of Rosemary Hill Observatory (RHO), a restricted-access facility operated by the University of Florida's Department of Astronomy. Dr. Francisco Reyes, Associate Scientist in the Department of Astronomy, will be our guide and telescope operator as we peer through the 30-in. Tinsley reflector.
Because this is a private tour, and because parking at RHO is limited, we will meet at the residence of Gwen and Randy Palmer (a.k.a. Moondance Hill), and then carpool to the observatory. The carpool will depart from Moondance Hill at 6:30 p.m. sharp! If you miss the carpool, you will not be admitted to RHO!
THE TOUR IS FREE, BUT YOU MUST BE A MEMBER (ON RECORD AS OF MARCH 31, 2006) TO GO ON THE TOUR. Household family members are welcome. Other guests may remain at Moondance Hill during the tour, or they may bring a completed membership form with their full 2006 dues (no pro-rate).
Following the RHO tour, we'll return to Moondance Hill for our "March" star party. Moondance Hill is an excellent observing site with darker skies than Chiefland!
Prior to the RHO tour, we will have a picnic dinner at Moondance Hill. Please bring a potluck dish for 8 or more if you wish to dine with us. We'll supply most of the utensils and paper products. BYOB.
