An Evening of Discovery at Rosemary Hill Obsevatory

(THE FOLLOWING IS ABOUT THE LAST OPEN HOUSE—HELD SPRING 1997)

The Department of Astronomy at the University of Florida invites You to participate in an evening of discovery to mark the arrival of Comet Hale-Bopp. This evening at Rosemary Hill is presented by faculty and students in the Department of Astronomy.

WHERE Rosemary Hill Observatory, Bronson, Florida


Rosemary Hill Observatory is a research and teaching arm of the Deparment of Astronomy located about 30 miles southwest of Gainesville, Florida The observatory has only been open to the public a few times in its thirty-year history. (Last time was over twenty years ago.) If skies are clear, visitors can view the heavens from a dark viewing site, a rare opportunity for many people.

This will include views of Comet Hale-Bopp. Visitors will spend about three hours at the observatory (if skies are clear).

The open house will be held regardless of the weather since guests will have the opportunity to hear about the observatory and see demonstrations of observatory instruments. (See list of events above.)


ADVANCED RESERVATIONS REQUIRED


Warning: Restroom facilites are available at Rosemary Hill. However, Rosemary Hill is not equipped for the handicapped. Observatory telescopes are up one flight of stairs. The only seating will be on the bus. Observatory building are several hundred feet apart. Roads on observatory grounds are paved but not lighted. Some roads have slight grades. Please call the department if you may need assistance when visiting the observatory.
