(List active since 1997 Oct.)

The Alachua Astronomy Club, Inc. has two electronic listserv mailing lists:

  1. AAC-L A public, moderated list. Anyone may subscribe but all messages filtered by a list moderator. Primarily for announcements. Not a discussion list. More information about AAC-L below.

  2. ATM-OBSERVERS-L Currently a public, unmoderated announcement and discussion list. Anyone may subscribe. All messages posted immediately once sender approves their message. List specifically for those interested in amateur telescope making (ATM) or observing. More info here. (This list replaces an older AACM-L e-mail group.)

  3. FLIDA-L Due to inactivity, the e-mail list of the Florida Section of the International Dark-Sky Assoc. and its e-mail list has been removed.

The AAC-L E-Mail Service

The purpose of the AAC-L list is to provide announcements and reminders about AAC or astronomical events. AAC-L is not a chat list or discussion group. (Subscribe to ATM-OBSERVERS-L if you want to chat.) This list is moderated to prevent inappropriate messages or SPAM being sent to subscribers.

AAC-L is a listserv e-mail subscription program that allows self management. People manage their own subscriptions by subscribing, updating or unsubscribing themselves, and by posting messages. Please read the material on this page for more information before asking for assistance from the webmaster.

All e-mail sent from AAC-L contains a signature line that reminds subscribers how to post to this list and how to unsubscribe from this list.

If you subscribe, expect about 6-20 messages per month (avg. abt. 13/month) regarding: NOTE: AAC-L is not for the technical side of instrument making or observing. See ATM-Observers-L instead (which is also an unmoderated chat list)

REMINDER: AAC-L is not a chat or discussion group. Subscribers can send e-mail to AAC-L but messages are subject to approval by a list moderator. (If not approved, messages are not posted.)

Subscribing to AAC-L
  1. Send e-mail to listserv@lists.ufl.edu
  2. Use no subject or signature
  3. In body of e-mail put SUBSCRIBE AAC-L firstname lastname
    (Example: SUBSCRIBE AAC-L John Kepler)
Note: Do NOT use John Kepler—use your own name!
  4. Spell list's name carefully: AAC-L
(Note dash between AAC and L; the last character is the letter L not the numeral one)
  5. Send your request to listserv (listserv@lists.ufl.edu) and NOT TO AAC-L!
  6. Notice that listserv is spelled without a final letter "e" (it is listserv NOT listserve)
Removing yourself from this list is equally simple (see below). Messages from this list are also archived in the listserv Web archive. Hence, anyone can review past messages by looking at the AAC-L archives! Reminders about how to post messages to the list or how to unsubscribe are appended to all messages sent from the list.

Unsubscribing from AAC-L
  1. Send e-mail to listserv@lists.ufl.edu
  2. Use no subject or signature
  3. In body of e-mail put UNSUBSCRIBE AAC-L

(You must be logged on under same userid as when you originally subscribed.)
