SPECIAL LUNAR OBSERVING GROUP (LOG) SESSION

Lunar Imaging
Moon Phase: Near Full (Harvest) Moon, in Pisces
Lunar Colongitude: 79 degrees at 8:00 PM EDT)

Sun/Moon Altitude for Friday, October 2, 2009
FORMAT
During this three-hour session, club member Howard A. Eskildsen will show
members how to image the Moon including target selection, image acquisition and processing.
Some targets of interest along the terminator of the nearly full Moon will be the craters Grimaldi
and Hevelius.

Howard states with regard to this upcoming session:

"This is a neglected, but very interesting area of the Moon.á Another feature that will be well seen
is Planetia Descensus where Luna 9 made the first soft landing on the Moon.  The outer rim of
Mare Orientale will be visible and favorably librated and Schickard and Wargentin will be nicely
illuminated.  The small impact basins of Bailly and Schiller-Zucchius will be nicely seen and the
south polar area should be interesting.  The fascinating ray markings on Mare Procellarum should
show nicely and Aristarchus too.  In addition maybe we can dispel some of the misgivings we
have about near full Moon observing.  I look forward to it."
